Modelling of Future Water Use Scenarios Using WEAP Model: A Case Study in Baghdad City, Iraq

Iraq is one of the Middle East countries that suffer from water scarcity. In addition to policy upstream riparian countries; rapid population increase, economic growth, and climate changes are major stressors resources available for domestic agricultural sectors in this country. Therefore, it importance determine optimal management methodology. This study aims identify allocation among domestic, agricultural, industrial Baghdad city under present potential future scenarios. As such, WEAP model was used assess analyze current projected balance resource management. The firstly calibrated validated using monthly streamflow data at Sarai station on Tigris River. Subsequently, fed with different scenarios over period 2020-2040. employed included normal growth rate (I), high (II), halved river discharges (III), combined scenario flow (ΙV) simulated year type (V). Results proved satisfactorily modeled supply/demand R2 Pbias 0.73 2.43%, respectively during validation period. Also, found demand supply were unmet all proposed which implies there a swift need sustainable Baghdad.
